It was (probably) a dark and stormy night when we were contacted by fiction writer Dean Fearce (aka Richard Williams) to team up on a project. He was working on a novel, "Murder Happens," and wanted to incorporate some illustrations. One of the characters in the story, a serial killer and amateur graphic novelist named Dougy, was plotting his murderous activities via his illustrations. Dean commissioned us to create Dougy's graphic novel to be included in the book.
Our job, in essence, was to think—and draw—like a serial killer. (A bit of a stretch, but interesting!) To get into the character, our illustrator extraordinaire, Laura, created a pseudonym for herself, Ruth Liz Savage. (Get it? Ruthless Savage…muhahaha.) This job is still in progress and we're enjoying the unusual and particular challenges it throws our way (like when Dean asked me to illustrate a severed hand!).
